Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD)
Sharp syndrome
This is usually relatively benign running Sharp's syndrome is characterized by the overlapping of different connective tissue diseases.
Symptoms
- In the foreground is a Raynaud's symptoms (see CREST syndrome)
- Scleroderma-like lesions that may be accompanied by a Esophageal involvement.
- Symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyositis and rheumatoid arthritis may occur.
- a heart, renal or CNS involvement is rare.
Diagnosis
- In the laboratory, found in about 60% of sufferers of rheumatoid factor (see rheumatoid arthritis).
- Detection of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) in almost all patients.
- Proof In a typical clinical picture is the presence of anti-nRNP antibodies in high concentration.
Therapy
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and steroids in small doses if necessary
- Immunosuppressive therapy is usually not necessary
