In the Guaillain-Barre syndrome, GBS, (including acute idiopathic polyradiculoneuritis) is a disease in which the immune system is directed against the myelin sheaths of peripheral nerves of the human body and destroys. With the loss of these "myelin" there is a reduction of nerve conduction to the complete loss of nerve function.
The exact cause of this disease is still unclear, but it is a connection with some bacteria (especially campylobacter jejuni suspected), because in about 60% of cases of the disease, a harmless infection of the lungs or intestinal tract precedes.
Per 100,000 population there are approximately 0.6 to 1.9 on the disease Guillain-Barre syndrome. Men and women are equally affected.
A diagnosis of Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is itself relatively simple. It will be made for a typical symptom of using the image. Second, the slowing of nerve conduction velocity detected within a few days and in CSF blasphemous find there is a high protein.
